Class of 1960 Information Desk Dedication

On September 21, 2013, members of the Muhlenberg community came together to celebrate the dedication of the Seegers Union Information Desk in honor of Muhlenberg veterans, made possible by a generous gift from the Class of 1960.  President Randy Helm, Trustee Emeritus Ed Davis ’60, alumni, faculty, staff and administrators, several of whom are veterans, were among those present.

President Helm introduced Ed, who talked about why the Class of 1960 chose to honor veterans with the space.  Ed said, “When we arrived on campus in 1956, there were reminders of the College’s involvement in the war effort of World War II.  Also, several of our classmates were at least three or four years older, because of their service time.  These classmates were attending under the G.I. Bill.  Many other classmates went on to serve after graduation.”  Ed went on to say, “We wanted to recognize all veterans, male and female, for all their efforts, and we wanted the space to be in a prominent area.”  The Information Desk will be seen every day by the thousands who pass through the red doors of Seegers Union.

After Ed’s remarks, he unveiled the plaque with veteran Chuck Peters, Jr. '94.  Guests stayed for light refreshments and good conversation before heading off to enjoy the festivities of Reunion/Homecoming.

The College is so grateful for the generosity of the Class of 1960, and all those who attended the event to honor veterans.
