Networking for Success

On Saturday, January 11, more than 200 students, alumni and local professionals joined together at the Allentown Brew Works for the Reality MC Networking Reception. Reality MC is a program held for seniors during the last weekend of winter break, featuring sessions in a conference style to help prepare students for life beyond Muhlenberg’s red doors. As part of these lessons, the importance of networking to find career success is stressed and put into practice at Saturday evening’s networking reception.

Students eager with questions and alumni brimming with experience and wisdom mingled during the reception, which this year featured a VIP Hour exclusively for alumni and guests, allowing the alumni to do some networking with each other. Some alumni, like Kelly Owens Pisano ’09, remembered her own experiences as a student, meeting fellow Mules who helped her along the way:

"My career is thanks to a Muhlenberg alumnus and I wouldn't be where I am today without him. These events are extremely valuable and I am thrilled to finally have an opportunity to help current students, the same way alumni helped me five years ago. I look forward to hearing about the success of the seniors I spoke with, as they were all extraordinary individuals."

One of the extraordinary students Kelly encountered that night was Brian Borosky ’14, an English major from Bethlehem, Pa. Brian was able to interact with alumni from many different walks of life:

"Whether these alumni were doing market research, teaching English in India or organizing music lessons, their enthusiasm was contagious and invigorating. Each of them told me – and showed me – how well a Muhlenberg education prepares each of its graduates to be a functioning and dedicated member of any world they choose after college. I left with a sense of confidence and eagerness, yet I felt calm and thoughtful too. This pleasant and encouraging mix of feelings is perhaps my most valuable gain from this well-planned and well-attended event."
